I don’t want to be Elfstar any more. I want to be Debbie.

Sinistar’s got nothing on me…

Well, I’m not running late today. As long as the bus shows up on time, I should make it to the office with time to spare. Ontime, but rather hungry. I’ve really got to work some breakfast into my morning routine. This whole leaving the house with no breakfast can’t possibly be healthy for me.

Technology update: after a little over a week together, the Z and I are finally getting comfortable with each other. After a couple of abortive attempts to install the OpenZaurus ROM on it, I think I finally have the hang of it. Been running OZ for a couple of days straight now, and its fairly stable, much more capable, and drop dead gorgeous. The ability to rotate my screen on the fly (which requires a rather inelegant hack on the standard Sharp ROM) is priceless. And being able to set up a different background image for each tab on the launcher is the r0xx0rz, j0. Right now my backgrounds are: the Meerkat-rendered version of Broken Miho from MegaTokyo, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, a group shot of the girls from Love Hina wearing togas -.~;, the Cardboard Tube Samurai from Penny Arcade, Dante from Devil May Cry, and finally Lain from Serial Experiments Lain. Yes, I’m a total geek, in case you were wondering.

Writing my blog posts on here and then uploading them from home or the office seems to be working fine, and as I get more used the the Z’s little keyboard and my typing speed on it increases, things should only get better. The only problem I’m having with the Z overall right now is the inability to get MySQL installed on it. It runs fine on the standard Sharp ROM, but pukes on OZ. The simple solution, of course, would be to switch back to the Sharp ROM, but OZ rocks in so many ways that I really don’t wanna do that. Besides, the easy way out is for the weak. >.<;

So I’m in email contact with the guy who developed the original MySQL package for the Z and working out how to get it functioning on OZ. The beauty of Open Source. o.~

Besides that, I spent some time last night looking more closely at Sitescooper. I was getting a little worried about it keeping multiple copies of each site it scooped, each with different links, but after some massaging and judicious application of the -refresh flag at the command line, it’s working fine now. I still do miss the sheer automatic simplicity of AvantGo, having to upload my scoops folder onto the Z manually via SSH is geeky, but still a step I’d like to skip. Once again, I’m convinced this is a geek-only device. There’s no way a normal consumer would put up with having to figure out SiteScooper’s command-line parameters and manually uploading the sites to his PDA just so he can read the electronic version of the Wall Street Journal on the crapper (nevermind installing Perl just so he can run SiteScooper in the first place). Still, I love my Z.

Stop’s coming up. Later.
