What a day…
Ugh.. I think it says something about how long and horrible today was that I haven’t even gotten up the energy to write anything about it at all until this time of night. It would be too cliche to say that everything that could go wrong went wrong, so I’ll just say that about half the stuff that could have gone wrong went wrong.
Let’s start with me getting late to work again. This time at least I can definetly blame it on the bus, though, I easily stood there over an hour waiting for the damn thing to show up. And when it does show up, it’s standing room only. Not fun. Finally I get to work and start packing the computer and other things hurriedly, because we were supposed to have been gone for Salinas half an hour ago. The problem with packing hurriedly is that you always forget something.
The purpose of the trip to Salinas is simple: we’re going over to install the newest version of an inventory and account tracking and management system we’ve coded up for one of our clients. So I pack the computer, the Zip drive, a bunch of cables, some extra disks, a thing that blinks, and assorted other gizmos, gadgets, and doodads. What I don’t pack, of course, is the application we’re supposed to be installing. So we drive there (it’s a little over an hour’s drive), we put up with the stench of cows (it’s a slaughterhouse), we get in there, we hook everything up.. we realize we left the one reason for this trip back at the office. Again, not fun.
We did get to eat some excellent shrimp, octopus, and other assorted seafood empanadillas ( don’t even know what the word for that is in english), though, so it wasn’t a complete waste. We also fixed a few bugs they were having, so they were glad we came anyway. Unfortunately, I have to go over again on Monday. o.o;
But on to happier subjects: Ragnarok Online. Finally finished downloading the mammoth installer (I have it on CD now, any of my friends who wants to try the game out, I’ll burn you a copy), did the install dance, and played. I could go on and on about the nostalgia.. or about how th egraphics seem sharper and smoother now.. about the improved musical score, or that the level and damage systems seem slightly more balanced and the flow of the game overall is even more enjoyable now.. but I’ll just say this: I’ve only played one night and my character is allready level 10. That’s how long I was stuck to the screen. The game’s as addictive as ever. Come… join me… O.O
