So, it’s no secret that I’ve been playing a fairly decent amount of Ragnarok Online lately, and quite enjoying myself while doing so. However, there’s one thing in the game that annoys me to no end. No, it’s not the lag, or the KS’ers, or the lamers or clueless n00bs. It’s those goddamn happy face masks.

Maybe it’s the fact that they sorta scare me. They make me think that everyone who wears them is in some sort of cult. Maybe it’s the fact that everyone’s got one. In a game where it can be hard to stand out when everyone looks very much like everyone else, you’d think people would want to differentiate themselves from the others. Instead, easily one third of the population of RO seems to be wearing the damn things. Or maybe it’s just the fact that they’re frellin’ ugly. Whatever the case, the smiley masks must be stopped.

Now, don’t get me wrong, those masks aren’t completely useless. They’re fairly easy to get, and they provide +1 protection. When you’re starting out you need all the help you can get. But when I see a fucking Assassin wearing one of them, I know something, somewhere, has gone horribly wrong. Come on, people, it’s okay to wear the things while you’re a wee novice, I suppose, but once you shift to your first class, ditch the mask and buy a hat or something. Not only will you look better and have better protection, you’ll be helping to keep the world Smiley Mask free. And that benefits all of us.
