It’s official: J-Lo sucks *and* blows.

And just because I find it highly amusing to read about Gigli, the new J-Lo/Ben Affleck disaster-cum-movie, being called a low point in cinema history even before it’s released in most theaters: Critics Call Affleck, J Lo. Movie ‘Gigli’ a Turkey.

From the article: “Among its biggest problems is a love scene in which Lopez spreads her legs and tells a smoldering Affleck, ‘It’s turkey time. Gobble, gobble’”

It’s Katsu!

This is in direct response to my girlfriend telling me that I don’t use my digicam enough:

Look, it’s me, Katsushiro, looking pale, scared and confused by this whole newfangled ‘camera’ thing.

danismile.jpg
And this is me looking much more sure of myself, having (or so I thought) mastered the camera.

However, in clear retaliation over being used for the purpose to which it was intended (ie., taking pictures), my digicam decided to break. The battery compartment fall down go boom. It still works, but it’s a bitch to keep the batteries in. So there may be fewer pictures (although I’m sorta plotting to buy one of those even more newfangled celphone/camera hybrids soon too…)

And in other news, still no news on when the Z will be back. Crap.

There’s something wrong here…

Now, those of you who know me know I’m a bit of an Open Source and Linux advocate (some would say ‘zealot’). I appreciate and understand the concepts and ideas behind Open Source and Free (as in speech, not free as in beer) software. While a big part of my advocacy in this area is philosophical in motivation (I do believe society as a whole benefits in philosophical and spiritual, as well as material, ways from the creation and use of Open Source software), part of that motivation is also rooted in the technical superiority of many Open Source applications have over their closed source counterparts. And even those applications that lack some of the features of more well known commerical software, still tend to have one major advantage: they’re often completely free. And yet, despite this, people continue to use the proprietary versions of the software, and pay good money (lots of it, in some cases), to do so. To examine my point, let’s put aside the whole Linux/Windows operating system debate, and instead focus on two applications (or application suites, to be more precise) that are available on both Windows and Linux: Mozilla and OpenOffice.org.

They’re so gonna get sued…

You owe it to yourself to check this out (warning, that’s a 40+ MB Quicktime movie!). It’s a very professionally done short Batman movie starring Bats, the Joker, and some Aliens and Predators thrown in for good measure. It’s a hugely entertaining watch, and very professionally done. Download, copy, and share it, quick, before the lawsuits start! (also, click here to just find out a tiny bit of info about the film.

The Z is dead, long live the Z

Justa quick note to let y’all know the sad news that my beloved Sharp Zaurus 5500 suffered a ROM Flashing-related incident, and stopped showing any signs of electronic life. Luckily, it’s still under warranty and the good folk at Sharp are going to fix it, but in the meantime, I am Z-less. That R t3h suk, if you catch my meaning. I’ll let y’all know when it’s back.

Second Life

Not that long ago I was all excited about an online game world known as There. It seemed like a unique and interesting idea: an online world that wasn’t so much a game as a place, where you could create a virtual avatar, with virtual objects in yoru virtual home, and go exploring, to see what’s out there, meet new and interesting people, and not kill them. I was supposed to have gotten in to the beta for it, but they never got back to me. It’s been several months now, and while There seems to have progressed somewhat, it’s not out of beta yet, and I’ve grown somewhat suspicious of their revenue model, that is, selling virtual items for real money. Into this situation comes a world that seems very close in spirit and execution to There: Second Life.

PH34R MY RAM!

GigORAM.png
As the above PNG illustrates (PNG: it’s the bestest graphic format! Stop using GIFs, move to PNG today!), my computer (a.k.a. the Pimprig) now has 1 friggin’ GIGABYTE of RAM. Ph34r it. Now all I need is a bigger hard drive to install Linux on (I need to keep Windows around for the games, and a 20 GB hard drive is not big enough for 2 operating systems to share. And yes, I know about WineX. It’s good, but not quite good enough yet) and I’ll be the happiest camper of them all.

This could change everything.

Cafepress has gotten a bad rap lately. Mostly from me. We used their services to make some shirts for my old Long Live the Lemur site, and while the shirts were.. acceptable quality, they certainly weren’t worth what they were charging for them. Perhaps their other products are higher quality, and I’ve heard that their shirts have gotten better, but just on the basis of those shirts, I really wouldn’t have reccomended them to anyone unless they really had no other choice. But something’s happened that makes me think that perhaps I’ve been a bit too rough on them. They’re about to introduce a new product that’s not only completely different from the t-shirts and mugs and bags they usually sell, but that has a serious potential to change everything about the publishing business: On-Demand Publishing.

I will save Vvardenfell hundreds on car insurance!

So you might be wondering what happened to all those updates and blog posts I was supposed to be making these past few days. Or what happened to all the pictures. Well, I’ll tell you what happened: Morrowind.

All these days and nights when I’ve been supposed to be blogging and putting up pics, instead I’ve found myself wandering the lenght and breadth of the island of Vvardenfell on my ‘puter. In the guise of a puissant Argonian Spellsword, I’ve been righting wrongs, wronging the occasional right, and discovering layer upon layer of depth to this game. I’m hooked.
