I will save Vvardenfell hundreds on car insurance!
So you might be wondering what happened to all those updates and blog posts I was supposed to be making these past few days. Or what happened to all the pictures. Well, I’ll tell you what happened: Morrowind.
All these days and nights when I’ve been supposed to be blogging and putting up pics, instead I’ve found myself wandering the lenght and breadth of the island of Vvardenfell on my ‘puter. In the guise of a puissant Argonian Spellsword, I’ve been righting wrongs, wronging the occasional right, and discovering layer upon layer of depth to this game. I’m hooked.
It doesn’t hurt that Morrowind has spectacular graphics, but the real draw here is gameplay. This game has it in spades. It’s sort of the Grand Theft Auto of the RPG world. The degree of freedom you’re granted is fantastic, and the level of detail and immersiveness is breathtaking. I normally despise having to wander aimlessly around a map in order to level up my character in most RPG’s, but in Morrowind, exploration is a serious part of the fun. The world is huge and picturesque and unique, making you genuinely want to see just what lies over that next hill. The land is so huge that getting lost is practically a certainty, but even that is a joy, as the whole island is sprinkled with dungeons, houses, towers, ruins, graves, and other travellers ready to drag you into their miniplots. And all that is even without going into the cities. There’s a plethora of factions to join, each with its own quests, missions, and feel. There’s enough variety to accomodate nearly any playing type, from the powerful magician, sneaky thief, vicious warrior, or even glib diplomat, nevermind variations on that like sneaky mage or dashing swashbuckler.
Point is, the game is sucking out my soul, and I’m all too eager to let it do just that. It’s absolutely excellent, and I can think of many, many worse ways to spend my free time. But don’t worry, I’ll be putting up a few more posts over the next couple of days, there have been a couple of non-Morrowind related events that I wanna blog about, and you’ll be hearing about them soon enough.
