Pocast #8: The Katsu Show, on the road and Coralized!

Well, better late than never. I recorded this show today during my morning drive, intending to clean it up and post it from the office, but events conspired against me, and I had absolutely no time to do so during the day. So now that I’m back home, I cleaned it up, added some music, and posted it up.

Show Notes:

I’m also trying something different with today’s podcast: I’m Coralizing the download of the MP3 file, and seeing if it helps save some bandwith, might even work a little quicker for some of you out there downloading. Let me know if it works out for you guys, and if you have any trouble downloading the podcast!

Download the MP3 file for this podcast here.

I enjoyed your brief comparison of NewsBreak, Egress, and FeederReader.

One clarification: FeederReader is not associated with FeedReader. Although FeederReader *is* written in .NET Compact Framework (C# to be exact). I am in very active development of FeederReader and am interested in any comments on its operation in comparison to the other available programs.

One aspect that I’m particularly interested in feedback on is the Enclosure Toolbar. I haven’t got *all* the bugs out of it yet, but I’d love to hear what you think. Let me tell you how it works and maybe you can try it out as well!

It is still in Alpha, of course, but has fairly extended enclosure support with media management built in. Within FeederReader, you can read RSS feeds while listening to your podcasts. There is a separate Enclosure Toolbar that controls downloading, playing, and deleting enclosures/podcasts. The Enclosure Toolbar will automatically appear if you view a message with enclosures on it, or you can turn it on manually with the Display Icon | Toolbar | Enclosure menu item.

The way it is designed, playing podcasts is independant of reading feeds. So you can read messages while listening then click next to delete the currently playing podcast and go to the next podcast. All while continuing to read, uninterrupted, the latest news. At any time, you can tap an icon to go to the message associated with the currently playing podcast to read any associated notes embedded in the podcast feed.

This is a level of integration that you cannot get from media player and playlist combination alone. And I’d be interested in hearing about how Egress and Newsbreak handle this. Is there way better? How?

If you try FeederReader and can know of a better way to integrate reading feeds and listening to podcasts, I’d love to hear about it!

    Thanks!

    Hey there Greg!

First off, thanks for listening and for posting. Glad to have that cleared up, re: the relationship (or lack thereof) between Feedreader for the PC and FeederReader for the PPC. I’ll be sure to comment on that and clear it up on my next podcast as well.

Your post actually got me thinking a lot, you mention several things that I haven’t gotten to play with yet, and it’s actually got me a little excited over getting to play with FeedReader over the next few days. I’m gonna do a more in-depth comparison of the programs probably in the next show, which is likely to be tomorrow or on the weekend, once I’ve been able to play more with both FeederReader and the others. I’ll probably have a few humble suggestions as well, keeping in mind that it’s still alpha software. For what it’s worth, though, I’ve found it very usable, even given its alpha status.

So, again, thanks for taking the time to visit and thanks for the interest in my opinion. I’ll be giving you something more in-depth to play with soon. :)

Katsushiro a.k.a. Daniel Rodriguez, your humble blogger and podcaster.
