… I will devour this cute bunny.

Save Toby

… I don’t know wether this guy is just a sick fuck, or the most brilliant entrepeneur in recent years. Whether he eats the bunny or not, he’s allready gotten $16K in donations. As far as he’s concerned, he’s allready won.

An update on my current emo streak…

Just a quick update for my friends.. thanks to all of you who’ve taken the time out to contact me over the past couple of days.. it’s really helped, a lot. I just want you all to know that things are, more or less, under control again. I’m still not 100%, but I’m getting there. The crisis is past. Still have a lot of work to do in order to move forward, though, but I’ve got some hope again, I’m thinking it’ll be okay again. So for those of you worrying your little hearts out, don’t. I’m okay, now. I’ll be better later, too.

And again, thank you.

Don’t you hate it…

… when you throw something out, only to realize a few days later that there was something you wanted to do with it? Yeah… I got this hankering today after listening to the IT Conversations podcast about this little device that would sit there, recording everything you do, say, and see, day in and day out, and thenb you can search it. Well, I don’t have anywhere near the resources for soemthing like that, but I was thinking that maybe if I could find this El Cheapo QVGA mini digicam I had lying around (which I used to use as a webcam a couple years ago) I could take it with me, and once an hour or so, just take a picture of wherever I happen to be and whatever I happen to be doing. I could maybe take a note on GlitchX while I was at it. Then I could just upload the pics to Flickr, tag ‘em up with some metadata and descriptions from my notes, and have this running record of my days.. just for a while, as an experiment.

Of course, then I get home, look for the cam, and realize I threw it away a week or so ago while cleaning out my junk drawer, ’cause I figures I was never gonna use it again and I could get a better one for like $15 @ CompUSA… so now that’s what I’m gonna have to do. I’ll drop by CompUSA or OfficeMax or somesuch tomorrow if I have a chance, and try and snag me another El Cheapo cam. I’m not looking for multi-mega-pixel jobbos here, just something that can take a QVGA or better picture and can hold, say, at least 25 of them. I’m pretty sure I can snag one of those out of a bargain bin for less than $20. Wish me luck. :)

Blogging from the hospital…

… no, don’t worry, I’m not in a hospital bed somewhere with myriad tubes stucking in and out of my unmentionables. I’m in the third waiting room of the day and it’s it’s not even 10 am yet.

While I wait for my boss to let me know whether I’ll have a medical plan at work or not, I’m busy trying to take matters into my own hands. Of course, health plans are expensive as fuck, so the only one I can afford is this one from a local hospital. Covers pretty much everything, so long as I do it all inthis one hospital. Problem is it requres a buttload of blood tests, X-rays, cardio tests, and even an EKG, just to see if I qualify. And after all these tests, I still need to have a full physical done at 1 pm.

I don’t mind so much doing all the tests… mymain worry is that they’ll notice my current thyroid problems (hypo-thyroidism, basically my metabolism has slowed down to a snail’s pace, and the main reason I’m looking to get a health plan is to get this condition treated) and deny me coverage because of it. If that happens and I don’t get the plan from work either, I’ll be well and truly fucked… wish me luck.

Also, about my recent problems that I’ve mentioned… working on them. we’ll see where the week takes me.

Calming down…

I’m sorry…

… this is going to be a dificult week for me. Probably longer than a week, at that, if things go in the direction I think they’re headed. I apologize in advance to my friends. I’ll talk about what’s happening once I’m not a shuddering wreck. Until then, I’ve got days and days of work to plod robotically through ahead of me.

I hate this.

I don’t see any other options.

I’m upset right now.

… no, I’m not saying why. I don’t trust myself to talk about it here. But suffice it to say I’m very, very angry and upset and hurt right now, so if I snap at anyone or I seem short-tempered today (or for the foreseeable future), I ask your forgiveness in advance.

… and yes, this is a cry for help.

Intelligent Design’s idiotic designer

So, i’m stealing this straight from BoingBoing, who’s linking to the NYT, but what can i say, it’s near and dear to my heart and I want to share:
Boing Boing: Intelligent Design’s idiotic designer

A fantastic editorial in this weekend’s NYT shreds the idea of “Intelligent Design” (a pseudo-scientific, crypto-Christian-fundamentalist way of talking about Creationism without mentioning God) by taking apart the incompetence and foolishness of the supposedly intelligent designer.

In mammals, for instance, the recurrent laryngeal nerve does not go directly from the cranium to the larynx, the way any competent engineer would have arranged it. Instead, it extends down the neck to the chest, loops around a lung ligament and then runs back up the neck to the larynx. In a giraffe, that means a 20-foot length of nerve where 1 foot would have done. If this is evidence of design, it would seem to be of the unintelligent variety.

Such disregard for economy can be found throughout the natural order. Perhaps 99 percent of the species that have existed have died out. Darwinism has no problem with this, because random variation will inevitably produce both fit and unfit individuals. But what sort of designer would have fashioned creatures so out of sync with their environments that they were doomed to extinction?

The gravest imperfections in nature, though, are moral ones. Consider how humans and other animals are intermittently tortured by pain throughout their lives, especially near the end. Our pain mechanism may have been designed to serve as a warning signal to protect our bodies from damage, but in the majority of diseases — cancer, for instance, or coronary thrombosis — the signal comes too late to do much good, and the horrible suffering that ensues is completely useless.

And why should the human reproductive system be so shoddily designed? Fewer than one-third of conceptions culminate in live births. The rest end prematurely, either in early gestation or by miscarriage. Nature appears to be an avid abortionist…

I want him to practice relentlessly.

I want him to dream about tone.

Blogging from lunch

Probably not posting this until I get home tonight, but I wanted to do an experiment now that I’ve got Pocket SharpMT to compose blog posts on my iPaq with.

Currently sitting at the counter at La Pattisserie in Plaza Las Americas, after cashing in my check at the bank. Never eaten here before, but the place is always packed, so it can’t be all bad. They sure are taking their sweet time bringing me my pasta, though… could be because of the lunch hour rush.

———-

Done with Lunch and it’s a couple of hours later, with me at a client’s office. Taking the opportunity to do some light blogging while some stuff updates. (And because I know you’re dying to find out: the food at La Patisserie was excellent, if a tad expensive.)

Getting out late again, looks like. At least it won’t be as late as before: I’m almost done by now. And once I’m done tonight, I’m pretty much done with this client for a while… they might save themselves from a fiery death after all…

—————-

Rather boring, all this, ain’t it? Think I’ll stick to just posting when there’s something actually interesting going on.

Winding Down…

Now here’s a category you probably never expected to see again: the Bedblog. But thanks to the technological trickery of wireless Bluetooth connections and Pocket SharpMT for my iPaq, I can now tap out a quick blog entry from bed and post it immediately. Neato-keen.

So my insane work week is finelly winding down. Got out from the client’s office @ 8 PM tonight, which is an improvement over the regular 9:00 - 9:30 PM time I’ve been managing lately. And tomorrow’s looking like I might actually be done with my workday before the sun goes down… wish me luck!

Again,no podcast yet.. got a few things I wanna mention on the next one, so as soon as I’m a bit more able (couple of days) I’ll be cooking up some the podcast goodness you guys love so much. :)

Dammit!

So I’m here in yet another server room, stuck working at a client’s on a Saturday again, and counting on my iPaq to keep me entertained while the servers trade their data. So I decide to try and input some text into PhatNotes, to prepare for the next podcast (which I was/am hoping to do tonight). And it’s slow going using only Fitaly. I’ve gotten faster with it, but not that fast yet. And then I remembered that I used to write decently fast using PhatWare’s Calligrapher handwriting recognition software. I don’t have access to my registered copy at home, sadly (I hadn’t installed it on the iPaq again yet), so I decided to just download the trial version so I could work with it for now and then install the full version when I got back home.

So I install it, it works, I’m writing, and then, something crashes and locks my iPaq. Can’t write, can’tt ap, can’t do anything. So I reset. No good. It would get stuck at the reset screen, over and over. Finally, I was forced to do a hard reset. Again.

*sigh*…

So now I’ve got it back to factory-fresh condition and no programs. Thankfully all my media files are in the SD card, so I can continue listening to my podcasts using the built-in media player.. and Betaplayer runs directly from the card, so I was able to watch Lost (great series, by the way) while I had lunch.. but I’m gonna have to restore it when I get home tonight, that sucks. And I haven’t done a proper backup in over a week.. I’m an idiot. Really should take my own advice about performing daily backups. Ah well..

Sorry, needed to rant.
