Well, if you’ve been keeping an eye on the blog, you know that my previous celphone, the Motorola v710, turned out to be a complete and total piece of shit, and the company that sold it to me, Centennial, a bunch of greedy lying bastards. So, after returning the phone and cancelling the account, the boss and I went over to Cingular and opened an account with them. I was iffy on buying another Motorola, but the Nokia ones they had were just fugly, and I wanted a flip phone with bluetooth. So I went with the Motorola v551:

Here’s a list of features:
* Compact design with soft-touch covers and vivid color internal display (65,000 TFT)
* Integrated VGA camera with 4x zoom and dedicated one-touch camera key
* Preloaded FotoFun Photo Editor for editing by adding clip art and backgrounds to existing images
* One touch video capture and playback
* GPRS and EDGE for high speed data exchange
* GSM Quad-band global roaming
* Dedicated carrier key for easy one touch access to a Web-related services
* Bluetooth wireless technology
* SyncML Device Management and PIM Synch
* Entertainment via Java preloaded and downloadable games, MP3 ringtones and more
* Picture caller ID & picture phone book
* Up to 5 megabytes of end user memory
* Multi-media messaging service (MMS), POP3/IMAP4 client for e-mail management and IM Wireless Village
* Conference calling and integrated hands-free speaker
Not too shabby, eh? I’ve been using it for a couple of days now, and I gotta say, it’s a huge improvement, quality-wise, over the v710. Reception is great just about everywhere, the color screen is gorgeous, call quality is crystal clear, and the bluetooth wireless connectivity works without a hitch.

Wireless internet access through Cingular’s EDGE network is quite nice as well, with typical speeds of 115-140 kbps, over twice as fast as a regular 56K dialup connection. As for the camera, while it has a lower max resolution than the v710 (640×480 to the v710’s 1280×1024), the pictures themselves are actually sharper and higher quality overall. One thing that surprised me was how well the phone takes pictures in low-light situations. The v710’s camera would show almost nothing except blackness in anything short of full daylight or bright office lighting. The v551, on the other hand, takes sharp pictures even when the only light in the room is the glow of a computer monitor. Very impressive. If you want to see what pictures taken with this phone look like, go to my moblog and check out pictures taken today (the 19th).
Overall, I’m hugely pleased with the phone and the service so far. Hopefully it’ll continue like this as the days go by.

I’m glad you are currently with Cingular, I can tell you now, you won’t have any major problems. I’ve been with them for close to 4 years now, and no HUGE complaints.
Long distance comes in clearly, and roaming service is free, as well as the calls. International calls also come in pretty sweet. Then again, if you’re trying to get a call from Russia, ANY sort of reception is good.
Kudos to yoo, mutha’!!!!!
