Podcast #19: Adam Curry gets his, Liberty Cablevision fucking sucks, and Happy Holidays, bitches!

My apologies for this being so freakin’ late. I recorded the show on Friday and put it together over the weekend, but was unable to upload and post it until now, since, as you’ll hear in the show, Liberty Cablevision, my internet provider, sucks donkey balls. The service was either unusably slow, or completely down, all weekend long, and yesterday as well. And today, when I get up in the morning, the Net’s back up, but they changed something in their DNS servers, because they are an incomptent bunch of apes who wouldn’t know a CAT5 cable from their own shriveled penises. So now when I tried to go to this site, or, in fact, pretty much any other site, I started getting these ‘error pages’ from their fellow cumguzzlers nice folks over at easyDNS claiming that ‘techgnosisweb.com is expired. Click here to renew it!’. Fuck you, easyDNS. Gord only knows how many less net-savvy folks you’ve gotten to sign up for your overpriced and shoddy services using this scam, but I’m fairly certain that it’s illegal. (Note: Looks like the easyDNS issues are an honest mistake or network misconfiguration error. See the comments below for some clarification. So, it looks like I owe easyDNS an apology. You’re good people after all. Liberty Cablevision, however, is still a bunch of syphillitic howler monkeys.)

Needless to say, I used some google-cache trickery to get access to some alternative DNS server entries (because those easyDNS fuckers fellows were also claiming that godaddy.com, their competition, was ‘expired’. Not to mention the sites for competing open and free DNS services such as unrated.net and ORSN), and I was immediately able to access my site again. EasyDNS are a bunch of shady scam artists (or, you know, not, as the case may be), and Liberty Cablevision, among their many other faults, apparently uses easyDNS as their provider, making them a party to this bullshit. Avoid both companies Liberty like the plague. I highly recommend GoDaddy.com as a network name registrar if you ever want a .com of your own, been with them for years and never a single problem.

Anyway, the show’s finally uploaded, it’s a little over half an hour and some 24 MB’s in size, and the show notes are below:

  • About 15 minutes of me calling Adam Curry an arrogant, overbearing twat. Nothing personal.
  • Another 10-15 minutes of me bitching about how much Liberty cablevision sucks, and recounting my Adventures with the Billing Department.
  • I say nice things about the iWannabes and the Dork Show
  • Bonus bitching! To all the morons who get their panties in a bunch over the use of ‘Happy Holidays’ vs. ‘Merry Christmas’: screw you, and the mangy, flea-ridden donkey you rode in on.
  • Finally, One Night In Your Skin, by Glasshouse, via the Podsafe Music Network (the only good thing to come out of podshow)
  • Oh, I almost forgot! I also mention how much ass Ancestor kicks! Go, listen, and become another junkie like me!

Sounds like fun, no? Go get your half-hour of bitching, whining, moaning, and somewhat unfocused rage here: The Katsu Show, Episode #19

It took me awhile to figure it out, but I think what happened is a server we recently contracted from managed.com to host our expired domain landing page, has the IP address of what was previously used as a resolver nameserver for an internet access provider somewhere.

Anybody who still has that IP in their DNS settings as a resolver (or is still getting it from their DHCP server) is having everything resolve to a single IP for all domains, that of the expired domain landing page.

This is obviously not our intention, we’ve asked our upstream there for another IP ASAP.

The only domains which should be resolving to that page are domains that are more than a week past expiry on our system, nobody else’s.

I’ve tried sending you an email, but I want to sort this out (like maybe find out which access provider or DHCP server is still handing out that address as a resolver), so if you want to call or email to discuss, I’d appreciate it.

    Mark:

Hey, first off, thanks for the response. It’s very civil, especially considering the fact that I’m quite a bit less than civil in my own comments… then again, I was also flying high on rage for my current internet service provider, who’ve been jerking me around for about 3 months now. So if this is, indeed, an honest mistake or error on your part, then I do apologize that you caught some of the splashover from my current bout of bile against Liberty Cablevision. And after having seen folks like Network Solutions try and pull just this sort of shady trick to get people to unwittingly switch to them, well, I suppose you can understand how I’d be leery when I see a page from easyDNS claiming that my own home domain is expired, when I actually renewed it quite recently.

Anyway, my service provider, at least, here, is Liberty Cablevision in Puerto Rico, don’t know who they subcontract with. I’m not currently at home, or else I’d get you the IP addresses of the DNS servers they’re feeding me, but as soon as I get them I’ll let you know. You can contact me at katsushiro (at) gmail.com as well for any information.. For now I’ve solved the problem on my end by simply switching to the ORSN public nameservers.. sure, they’re in Germany, but they’re lighting fast over here. :)

I’ve also put a note in the main entry above letting people know that you may not, in fact, be total bastards. Let it not be said that I’m not a fair guy.

    -K.

  3. TechgnosisWeb Prime » easyDNS, Hookers, and Good triumphs over Evil,,, for now. Says:

[...] Y’see, after posting up my original rant, I was contacted by Mark, the President and CEO of easyDNS. Now, Mark could have threatened me. Hell, I wouldn’t have blamed the guy if he had, since I’d said some fair nasty things about him and his. Or he could have sent some flunky to do it for him. But no, it turns out that Mark’s a fine gentleman, and he handled the matter in a truly civil fashion. He let me know that it was all a mix-up, and, more than that, he went ahead and did the Right Thing and fixed it so’s no one else would go through the same thing I did. Now that there’s a real honest businessman, let me tell you. He’s from Canada, you know, and all those Canadian folks are sweet people. Not to mention, he’s a fine musician, who’s music you’ll all be hearing in a podcast soon. [...]
