Two weeks to IE Free
This is fair warning: in two weeks, it will be impossible to view this site using Internet Explorer. Hell, if you’re using IE now, you probably already noticed a bar along the top of your screen letting you know that you really should upgrade to Firefox. If you haven’t done so yet, seriously, what the hell are you waiting for? In any case, this is my personal site, and I can block IE if I want to, so I will. In two weeks, that banner at the top will morph into a full-page “Sorry, you suck, go switch browsers before I let you in.” deadbolt. Enjoy!

So, K., I ahve to ask, why ban IE users from viewing your site? If the point is to promote choice, banning one of thje options (hateful as it may be) seems to violate the spirit of the thing. Besides, don’t people have a constitutional right to be lemmings? Also, visitors amy not eb aware fo teh virtues of The Fox and you will lose your chance to convert them.

Actually, this is an experiment. I wanna see what happens to my browser numbers. For two weeks, IE users will get gentle encouragement at the top of the site to go check out Firefox. After two weeks, they’ll see a full-page ad telling them that they really wont see the site as well with IE as they would with Firefox, but if they really want to, they can click on a link and see the site anyway. And depending on what I see in the numbers, I either go back to gentle encouragement, or I just take away the ‘continue anyway’ link. I just wanna see what happens. People have a constitutional right to be lemmings, but that doesn’t mean I have to let them in the door.

Giving away your true intentions might just affect your evil, evil plan, though…

Of course, don’t forget, some of us are forced to use IE at work. (Let me guess,w e should all be running Portable Firefox…) except, wehn your boss decides to borrow your thumb drive (as mine just did), you’re stuck….

Solution: spare thumb drive. CompUSA sells a 3-pack of 128MB USB drives for around $40.

I just opened up your site with IE and didn’t see the thingy at the top.

Hrm… just noticed that myself. Odd, it worked just fine yesterday, and I haven’t touched it. I’ll see what’s up.

Not to burst your buble, but it didn’t work the day you posted it either, I just didn’t bother to leave a comment.
