This weekend will be spent putting my new NVidia 7600GS card through its paces with a lot of World of Warcraft, Second Life, and now, the Lord of the Rings Online Stress Test weekend, but I do plan to update maybe tomorrow or Sunday with a little special feature: The Many Faces of Katsu, a collection of screenshots of my different online avatars. Ought to be a hoot. Before that, though, thought I’d update everyone on what wickedness I’ve been up to, now that I feel somewhat human again. I spent all of last week up in the frozen wastes of Buffalo, NY, visiting Mystery Girl and the rest of the gang up there, checking out Buffalo University’s Law School, and generally making a nuisance of myself by being very, very cold all the time. I shoveled snow! What did you do on your vacation?
It was actually quite a bit of fun, the cold didn’t bother me nearly as much as I feared it would (but then again, I’d already lived through an Ithaca winter), I got to drink lots of Guiness, stuff my face at a Red Lobster, trudge through the snow in search of the elusive and deadly Yeti, watch some very bad movies (Dracula 3000, I’m looking at you), and even cook a passable paella for the gang before I left. Visiting the university was a blast as well, if decidedly cold. I took a 3 hour tour (cue the Gilligan’s Island music), and while most of it was indoors, the short bits where we had to walk outside while it snowed sideways were not fun. But the facilities looked great, the law school library and classrooms looked nice, and hey, it’s one of the better law schools in the state, if not the country. And pretty much the only law school in the SUNY system, which means, it’s the only one that’s anywhere close to being affordable for me, so it’s a good thing that it seems to be pretty great.
So, having survived a week of Buffalo blizzards, I do think it’s very likely that before this year is over, maybe even by summer, I may be moving up there. Going to take me a while to actually get into the school for several reasons, not least of which is that I want to try and get my NY state residency before I apply, as the difference in tuition rates between in and out of state students is fairly marked, and that will take a year. So, the sooner I get up there, the sooner I have my residency and can get to studying properly. Of course, all this depends on my finishing my Associate’s Degree soon as well.. so don’t let me get too distracted with other things!
And, on that note, I leave, to finish up my workday, and then prepare for a weekend spent playing a fine selection of online games. What’s that about studying? Sorry, you’re breaking up, I can’t hear you…
