Allright guys, seeing as no one out-and-out hated the previous one, it’s time once again for Massively Multiplayer: The Podiobook. This one’s a bit longer than the previous one, though still only a couple minutes long; I’m working on some longer chapters, with actual dialogue, which are coming up soon. And, yes, I am actually writing: I’ve got about 2 chapters more in the bag, and banging out another chapter or so every couple of days. I’ll post up the written versions of the podcasts about 2 days after the podcast goes up, too.

I know, I know… I haven’t updated Massively Multiplayer in ages. That’s changing, though. I’ve got some creativity coming back (although my lack of talent remains about the same), and I’m starting to write again. There will be some new chapters up soon. But in the meantime, I’ve decided to try a little experiment: I’m going to be podcasting the bits that I’ve already written, as a podiobook! I recorded the first chapter today, and edited it up with some intro and bumper music on the iMac with Audacity, and I think it came out fairly spiffy. The whole thing is less than 5 minutes long, and the file itself is somewhere around 3.5 MB, so you have no excuses to not download it and give it a listen. This is my first time actually reading fiction like this, and especially my own fiction, so, please, leave me some feedback and let me know what you think of it. If you guys like it, I’ll definetly make more and keep writing, if not, I’ll just chalk it up to another failed experiment and find something else to entertain myself with. I’m easy like that.

Well, folks, I know you’re waiting for the next update on MM, and the good news is that I do have it written. The bad news is that it needs some serious editing before I can post it up, and I haven’t really gotten around to doing that. Why? Two words: Metroid Fusion. If any of you out there have played it, I think you can understand why I’d rather spend my time kicking ass with Samus rather than trying to hammer my substandard prose into some semblance of shape. Don’t worry, too much, though.. Metroid Fusion’s pretty short.

Well, looks like we’re down to one a week, for now. I’m trying to ramp up to the three-a-week I promised, but between crazy weekends, eye infections, and just pure chance, it hasn’t been possible. Still, I keep pumping out bits of story. Special thanks to Eldrin for bugging me so I would put up this bit tonight!

So, if you’ve been reading this blog for the past week or so, you’ve probably noticed a couple of entries marked ‘Massively Multiplayer’, and you might be wondering what, exactly, it is.

I’ve been wondering the same thing myself.

But I think I have an answer now. MM is my novel. Or, at least, it will be, someday far, far in the future. Right now, however, it’s my version of a webcomic, and that’s something I can handle. Rather than try to deliver entire chapters, or even entire scenes, I’m delivering little bits. A couple of paragraphs, a few lines of dialogue. Roughly the same amount of story you?d find in your average webcomic strip.

I’ve never quite been able to sit down and write large passages of text, entire chapters. But I have no problem banging out a couple of paragraphs here and there. So I’m gonna use that to my advantage: I’m going to deliver MM to you guys as if I was delivering a webcomic, in small doses, small scenes, snippets of action. A serial story, in words rather than pictures (because I can’t draw worth a shit). And I’m going to commit to the same amount as your average webcomic does: one update, three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I’ll try to do more, certainly. I may, at certain moments, feel inspired and write out several pages worth of story. But what I’m going to commit to is three days a week, one small update, a few paragraphs long at most.

Let me know what you think, and if you’ve been reading MM so far, tell me if you like it or hate it, and any thoughts you may have. And stay tuned tomorrow for the next installment of MM as we begin our new update schedule!

Well folks, last night’s update of Massively Multiplayer: the Novel was delayed, due to the need to engage in assorted shenanigans related to my dear Natalie’s b-day. But now we’re back on track: Rathnar’s facing down a deadly quartet of giant bird-things, and things look bad for our hero. Will Rathnar survive? Will he manage to battle his way out of this one? Well, after much soulsearching, pushing back, deciding not to do it, and then deciding to do it anyway, and just general asshattery, it’s finally here: the first couple of chapters of the story I’m working on. It’s not a steampunk tale, after all: it’s set in the slightly immediate future, inside a series of online games and virtual worlds. The plot is still being hammered out, ut I’ve got the first couple of chapters ready to go in my head, so now it’s a matter of just sitting down and typing it.. and eventually rewriting the hell out of it.
